A new boiler that’s right for your home

If your existing boiler is becoming unreliable, expensive to repair or simply no longer meeting the needs of your household, Willis Heating Ltd can help you choose and install the right replacement.

Our Gas Safe registered heating engineers install boilers for homeowners across Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven, Lewes and the surrounding area.

Choosing a new boiler isn’t simply about replacing the old one with the latest equivalent. We’ll look at your home, your existing heating system and how you use your heating and hot water before recommending the options we think will work best for you.

We’ll explain those options clearly, so you can make an informed decision without getting lost in technical jargon.

Do I need a new boiler?

Not every boiler problem means it’s time for a replacement.

If your existing boiler can be repaired economically and is otherwise in reasonable condition, that may still be the best option. But there comes a point when repeated repairs and declining reliability make replacement worth considering.

You may want to think about a new boiler if:

  • Your existing boiler is becoming increasingly unreliable
  • You’re paying for frequent repairs
  • Replacement parts are becoming difficult or expensive to obtain
  • Your heating or hot water no longer meets your household’s needs
  • You’re renovating or extending your home
  • You want to update an older heating system and its controls

If you’re unsure whether repair or replacement makes more sense, we’ll give you straightforward advice.

Choosing the right boiler

Most people don’t spend much time thinking about boilers until they need a new one.

There are different manufacturers, outputs and types of system to consider, and the right choice depends on your property and household rather than simply the brand name on the front.

We’ll look at factors such as:

  • The size and heating requirements of your home
  • How many bathrooms you have
  • Your household’s hot water requirements
  • Your existing heating system
  • Available space
  • Water pressure and flow where relevant
  • Your heating controls
  • Your plans for the property

From there, we can recommend suitable options and explain the differences between them.

What type of boiler do I need?

Combi boilers

A combination or combi boiler provides heating and hot water without requiring a separate hot water cylinder.

This can make a combi a good choice for many homes, particularly where space is limited. However, the amount of hot water a combi can deliver is an important consideration, especially in homes with more than one bathroom.

System boilers

A system boiler works with a separate hot water cylinder.

This arrangement can suit properties with greater hot water demands, particularly where different showers, baths or taps may need hot water at around the same time.

Regular boilers

Sometimes known as conventional or heat-only boilers, regular boilers form part of a more traditional heating and hot water system.

In some properties, retaining this type of system may be more appropriate than making major changes simply for the sake of installing a different type of boiler.

We’ll explain which options are suitable for your home and why.

Getting the boiler size right

A bigger boiler isn’t necessarily a better boiler.

Correct sizing is important for both performance and efficiency. A boiler needs to be capable of meeting the heating and, where applicable, hot water requirements of your property without being unnecessarily oversized.

We’ll assess your requirements before recommending the appropriate boiler rather than relying solely on the size of the boiler that’s already there.

Boiler manufacturers we know and trust

Willis Heating works with established boiler manufacturers and can advise on the products we believe offer the right combination of performance, reliability and support.

Vaillant

We’re a Vaillant Advance Installer, giving our engineers access to specialist manufacturer training and support.

Eligible Vaillant boiler installations can also benefit from extended manufacturer guarantees, subject to the model installed and Vaillant’s current terms.

Glow-worm

We’re also a Glow-worm Club Energy Installer, giving us additional product training and manufacturer support.

Extended guarantees may be available on eligible Glow-worm installations.

Other manufacturers

We can also advise on boilers from other established manufacturers, including Worcester Bosch.

We don’t believe the same boiler is right for every customer. We’ll consider the system, your requirements, budget, manufacturer support and guarantee before making a recommendation.

What happens during a boiler replacement?

The work involved will depend on your existing system and the boiler being installed.

A straightforward replacement may require relatively few alterations, while changing the type or position of a boiler can involve more substantial work.

Your installation may include:

  • Removing and disposing of the existing boiler
  • Installing the new boiler
  • Altering pipework where required
  • Installing or altering the flue
  • Preparing and cleaning the heating system
  • Providing appropriate system protection
  • Installing or upgrading heating controls
  • Testing and commissioning the new boiler
  • Registering the installation where required
  • Showing you how to operate the boiler and controls

We’ll explain what your particular installation involves before work begins.

Heating controls and smart thermostats

Replacing your boiler is a good opportunity to look at the way you control your heating too.

Modern heating controls can make it easier to keep your home comfortable without heating it unnecessarily.

Depending on your system, we can advise on suitable thermostats, programmers, thermostatic radiator valves and smart controls.

As Nest Pro Installers, we can also install and set up Nest Learning Thermostats where they’re appropriate for the system.

What guarantee will I get with my new boiler?

Manufacturer guarantees vary according to the boiler, manufacturer and installer programme.

Because Willis Heating participates in manufacturer installer schemes, we’re able to offer extended guarantees on certain eligible installations.

We’ll explain the guarantee available with the boiler we’re recommending before you make a decision, including anything you need to do to keep it valid.

That usually includes having the boiler serviced at the required intervals.

Looking after your new boiler

Installing the boiler is the beginning of its working life, not the end of our involvement.

Regular servicing helps keep your boiler operating safely and efficiently and can identify developing problems before they become more serious.

It may also be a requirement of the manufacturer’s guarantee.

Willis Heating provides annual boiler servicing, so we can continue looking after the boiler we’ve installed for you.

Should I consider an air source heat pump instead?

If you’re replacing an older heating system, it may be worth considering whether a heat pump is an appropriate alternative.

An air source heat pump won’t be the right choice for every property, just as a new gas boiler won’t automatically be the right answer for everyone.

Willis Heating installs both, so we can discuss the options and help you consider what makes sense for your home.
